Hello everyone!
A friend of mine has been big into beers for the last few years. He started bringing craft and foreign beers to our gaming nights (I'm a nerd.) I'd try a few, and quite liked some of them. Didn't have a job at the time so I wasn't too gone on spending my meager income on expensive beers. I'd mainly try a few when I went to that friend's place and he tell me about the beers.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago, I start a new job and get some money coming in. And the three pubs in Cork that serve great beer are all within five minutes' walk. That lead to many new nights out (particularly in The Abbot's Ale House) tasting nice beers. I think I'm hooked, a night out, trying out beers that taste amazing and talking about them is a great way to spend a few hours.
The main beers I've been trying include:
Gulden Drak: This is a brilliant beer, absolutely love it. I just have to limit myself to one glass after being given a mighty kick up the arse by it when I spent a night drinking it.
Maredsous: I like the Tripel in the bottles and The Abbots has another type on tap.
Weihenstephaner Vitus: This is probably my go to drinking beer.
Baltika Cooler: They had this for a while in the mainstream offies. A nice lager with a lemon honey flavour and very refreshing.
Anyway, I still haven't discovered my beer compass. I have no idea about how to describe the beer rating sites make no sense to me. So at the moment it's just a case of asking the guys in the bar "what is a Bock?" and trying one out of the fridge.
The only problem is not only do I want to drink beer, but to make my own. This is expensive in its own right but also I want to take pictures (my other expensive hobby.) I figure I can do pictures of beer, but that doesn't reduce the cost, just the time.
Anyway, hello!
