Fair point Will..

But I'm sure HBW would like to know what it would take to get those non-millers to go out and purchase one and the grain... Coz at the moment all those who homemill are in the minority.... otherwise the question is all a bit academic.

We know those who own a mill wil buy uncrushed grain... What'll it take to get the others to start milling? HBW think it's about price (hence the reduction in cost of mill), but it may be about more than that... taste would be another consideration and convenience.

Small observation, when you open a 3kg bag of crushed malt to use say 1kg, the crushed flour of the 3kg is lying at the bottom of the bag. By only taking 1kg without giving the bag a good shake you may be getting an uneven extraction rate. Having a grain mill to crush only what you need at the time of brew would address this.

Some quick maths later and Ive calculated that 3 crankensteins would cost about 80eur (incl post but not including VAT which would be be around an extra 15 each). So are there 2 more people out there interested in getting a shiny mill?[/quote:2lw89aqh]

Oh I'd love to get in on this. Based in cork though so might need a second stage of shipping. If there's others near you that are interested give them first preference I'd say to avoid hassle.

Our plan is to be able to retail a mill for £75 in the UK (<!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="www.brewsmarter.co.uk">www.brewsmarter.co.uk . . . . our UK arm, best value site in the UK). But not cheaper than here. Coopers etc. are still cheaper here, as are fermentables. Just look at UK prices for these items! We are sooooo spoiled here (check Spraymalt prices in the UK).

Pricing in Ireland for hops and grains is very competitive when you consider the cost of transporting goods here.

HomeBrewWest don't hand pack and pack grains and hops.

Our idea is to get "complete" hand cranked millers to consumers at ridiculously low prices and then sell professionally packed ingredient packs. Think hygeine, consistency, quality etc. Packaged from a major UK wholesaler.

It would really help us if you guys could identify which hops and whole grains we should stock to make it work.

Laser will be gone from Ireland shortly too.
