Thinking of this again, maybe as an investment involving hundreds of high end crushers it'd be too much for the market involved at that price.

I'm not adding much to the discussion; just more of a "yea, me too!".

I'd LOVE to switch to uncrushed grain (it keeps longer and supposedly taste better when it's freshly crushed and then used).

I WOULD be looking for an adjustable mill that at least has the ability to be motorized later, though...
(I've already got a 3/4 HP motor, pully, and belt waiting; - took it off from an old treadmill my parents were getting rid of so that I could buy a malt mill and motorize it later; lol!)

A half decent cordless drill or cheap electric drill will work fine for you, I use a cordless. All of the commercially available mills that I looked at can be motorised if you want to go down that road. (I just couldn't be arsed).

If you have no suitable drill then it's close on 130 for a halfway decent corded drill plus the hassle of assembly, as said it's close enough on price if it's ready to plug in and go, but it's a hefty chunk of change I'll agree.[/quote:3t1rrwdj]

You don't need a decent corded drill, the cheapest of the cheap will do the job i use a B&Q own brand one, crushing grain isn't really any difficulty for a corded drill (even a cheap one) and you'll be using it relatively infrequenly anyway.

Is the german engineered crusher one of those Kitchen style ones ? Snazzy looking things ? Stone mills or something ?

Or are we talking a Haferboy or something similar ?

I've a Crankandstein , great job in fairness .
Hopper is a bamboo waste bin I picked up for a fiver , holds about 3 kilos . I bolted two pieces of 2x4 to the bottom of it , so I just put it on top of my plastic Bucket ( with a bin bag in it ) and grind direct.
Alternatively I can grind it right into the mash Tun !! can't get fresher than that now can you ?

The more I look at this the more I think that the Crankenstein is for me (I had to throw out about 10k of unused grain recently, and have another 15k that went off recently & I dont think Ill get to use - not happy!)
Some quick maths later and Ive calculated that 3 crankensteins would cost about 80eur (incl post but not including VAT which would be be around an extra 15 each). So are there 2 more people out there interested in getting a shiny mill?
