Cork brewpubs - what a disappointment! 14 years 8 months ago #19

Hi Mark,

Terribly sorry that you didn't enjoy yourself! Tom was working that day and it's normally impossible to get him to shut up at all so him saying anything "bluntly" or being unfriendly is bizarre!

Like many posters have already suggested, Rebel Red is €4.30. In fact nothing in the bar costs €4.90. Did you order a packet of Tayto with your beer maybe?

Sunday afternoons in the Well aren't exactly wild I'm afraid, especially on a Bank Holiday where most people are nursing their death hangovers. A shame you didn't stick around, it was pretty busy later on!

We do food on only on Thursdays in the form of pizzas from a wood-fired oven, and it's consistently busy that night what with the Drink & Draw group. Regardless, we hope you'll pop back into us next time you're in Cork, and not completely blacklist us and the Bierhaus on one bad experience.

Sorry coming to this thread late.

I am a customer of both pubs and with out them Cork would be a beer desert.

Mark the bushman is entitled to his opinion and can spend his hard earned money anywhere he chooses.

But in the current economic crisis it is unfair to express his opinion on this forum where it can destroy peoples lively hoods.

I was one of the first people to join the forum, the forum admin Barry, sbillings and the beer nut have done great work on the site, but I think this thread should be removed, if mark the bushman wants to express his view go to trip advisor. i speak only for myself but the comments posted by mark the bushman are disgraceful.

Just like mark i can also express my opinion this thread should be removed.

I have to agree. I don't think people realize how stuff like this can affect a business reputation. It's an opinion, not a fact.
Personally I've never been to the Bierhaus but I have been to The Franciscan Well. I went on a Wednesday afternoon and despite it being very quiet then (obviously) there was still a nice vibe in the place. Staff were friendly and knowledgable, spoke with them and their brewer for ages about their brewing process etc.
As for decor, that's all personal taste, if you don't like it it doesn't mean it's wrong.
Again, just my opinion.

I find myself torn between the both arguments here. Should we allow this kind of criticism be posted or not .
I feel that constructive criticism is good as we all can find ourselves slipping into poor habits and it helps us to refocus.

Censorship = bad. The truth will come out, and for one negative reference there have been loads of positive.

And anyway, no business can make everyone happy all the time...

My 2c.

I think it's unfair for you to express your opinion on the fairness of him expressing his opinion...

Fact of the matter is that it is his opinion to express. He didn't like his visit to the afore mention places, others may have different opinions on the matter. If it comes down to restricting or censoring peoples opinions, you have to take the good with the bad, if his take on the places (perhaps in a negative light) should be stricken; I say others take on the places (perhaps in positive light) should also be stricken.

You see where I'm going with this?

Cast your mind back to viewtopic.php?f=23&t=5872&p=64556 where I posted a good experience about dealing with Homebrew.ie - others posted a less than stellar experience with the same company... there was no outcry against that, why should this be any different?

This is a very tricky path, if you ban one aspect of it, you are biased. Now, to keep it fair, you must ban the other. So there would be no more reviews of any places, any companies, or any beers... just in case someone doesn't agree with it.

A healthy debate will never make or break a company, it will only give them light.
