The tesco prices are introductory and have been extended but they will end eventually and be closer to the off licences.

Just back from Tesco Clare Hall -

The Seirra Nevada is gone - but a few Goose Island left.
The porter house hop head and red were available all that 1.50.
O'Haras was mostly gone - just the stout left.

Dropped in to Tesco's Stillorgan- The only Irish they had was Porterhouse Plain and Oyster and O'Hara's Stout and Leann Follain. This indicates to me that either:

a) People have decided that the weather is too hot for stouts and porters.

or

b) People are not shifting away from Guinness.

I think it's a bit of both, but I think Guinness drinkers are very hard to get to move onto something else. And they are used to it being a little bit cheaper than everything else, which doesn't help. Many's the barman has commented to me about how Guinness drinkers always know how much their pint cost.

Also I think a huge part of it, and unique to stout almost, is draught in cans. Very hard to get people to shift away from the draught.
