Be careful that you question the breweries, they are beyond reproach. Accusations of negativity await.

Regardless of the retail price, PH would be getting paid the same. Just like some places sell Hooker for €3.50 a pint and others for €5.50 a pint, the lads get paid the same per keg regardless, and have no control over retail prices.

The Tesco in Naas finally has the full range of craft beers available. Goose island and sierra Nevada in plentiful supply, all at €1.50. There's also a decent selection of British ales

Minister for Fun Róisín Shortall will put a stop to all that soon. It's meant to be a recession after all. <!-- s:roll: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_rolleyes.gif" alt="" title="Rolling Eyes" /><!-- s:roll: -->

Speaking of which I overheard the sales assistant in Maynooth yesterday being asked which was their "best value" beer, to which he answered €5 for 10 cans of Becks Vier.

Ironically the gardaí are showing zero tolerance to youths drinking in public after all the stabbings at the Forty Foot.

Tesco in Dundrum Town Centre has a good lay-out and selection of beers for both deals ...

It's hard to turn down O'Hara's and PH at that price! I see they're stocking 8 Degrees products too, although they're not included in any of the bulk-buy deals from what I could see.

Referring to the earlier poster's concerns, I must admit it did cross my mind that this could ultimately hurt someone... But to be honest I figured it would be more likely to be the independent off-licences as opposed to the brewers themselves (can't imagine Tesco buying in quantity could ever be a bad thing for them, to be honest, although I stand ready to be corrected).

Is there something ironic about the fact that independent off-licences might have championed sales of these irish brewers, and now could find themselves squeezed out (in terms of pricing) by the likes of Tesco. Can't help but feel slightly mercenary as I fill my basket with O'Hara's in Tesco as opposed to trotting into Deveney's to pay that bit more.

The answer for them might simply be to continue expanding and widening the range of beers they stock - going further afield for what Tesco will be unlikely to ever offer - but still...
