I was in Against the Grain last weekend. Had Voyager which was pretty ok. Had a black IPA by Sierra Nevada, can't remember the actual name. The SN was prices at €5.70 per pint and €2.85 for a 1/2 pint which is fair. However the schooner or 2/3 pint was priced at €4.60. My simple mind calculates the 2/3 pint at €3.80 (5.7 / 3 = 1.9, x 2 = 3.8 ) Either my maths are shockingly bad or that's a very hefty markup.

I was in the brew dock and they were charging €5.50 for a pint of Voyager. These guys are having a laugh. Why would I drink their own brand stuff when, for 20c extra, I can get a pint of Sierra Nevada. I'm all for supporting Irish Craft beer but, at that price, The margin on the own brand beers is huge. Iput this down to greed TBH

e3.80 a pop for the (4.3%) Clanconnel beers - in an off license...

The world class Oakham Ales range - e3.60 a pop.

How much is a bottle McGrath's Red in a [i:1fhwvwhr]pub[/i:1fhwvwhr], a tenner?

Crazy prices.

It's €5.80 in the B&C for a bottle. Got a bottle of McGrath's Stout up north for £2.29 last week.

Why? Hoppy good freshness.

Totally agree regarding the Cottage Group's massive margins (especially on bottles) - it's often bordering on crazy. However, they are leading the market in terms of selection, so I guess they can justify the 'you get what you pay for' thing.

But 5.50 for their own brews (which are fairly average IMO) is just wild. Sweetman's core range are far superior and they're only 4quid a pop. Was chatting about this with a mate the other day, and I think the Cottage Group have raised the prices of their own range to make up for all the free pints they give away (in exchange for cinema stubs, concert tickets, etc). I wouldn't drink their beers at those prices unless there was a marked improvement in quality.
