We've had a few queries, both on and off the board, from people looking for information on brewing commercially -- the applicable laws and the like.

So, until the [i:3q7r8hn6]ICB Guide to Microbrewing in Ireland[/i:3q7r8hn6] hits the shelves of all good bookstores, I thought it might be a good idea to collect what we do know (or have speculated about) in one place.

This thread is for any questions on commercial brewing; and any knowledge, tips and anecdotes that anyone who is setting up a brewery, or has done so in the past, would like to share.

Previously, we've dealt with the subject in this thread[/url:3q7r8hn6] from 2007, this one[/url:3q7r8hn6] from 2008 and this one[/url:3q7r8hn6] in 2009.

While ICB is happy to create a space where this information can be collected and shared, I doubt there's any substitute for the prospective brewer to going and speaking to the brewers who have already been through it.

And finally, just a note that nothing on ICB should be taken as legal advice -- you must do your own legal legwork via your solicitor, the Revenue Commissioners, your local council, etc.

What about the model of brewing only for export. isn't there a micro here that does that? Maybe I'm mis-remembering

no, except there isn't much of a market here for bottles of decent beer.
