I was considering signing up for this, but it runs from Oct. 14 till the 21st, and I can't do those dates. Unfortunately, they only run it once a year.

I attended the VLB Craft Brewing in Practice course in Berlin this year, and would thoroughly recommend it. For such a short course, they make a bloody good stab at the theory and practicality of operating a craft brewery. The course involved theory lectures, a couple of days tagging along with a brewpub brew master and on the school pilot brewery, lab work, and external lectures by some inspirational individuals working in the industry.

The course is really pitched at those with a bit of an understanding of brewing processes - and those that had partaken in a bit of home brewing or working in a brewery were at an advantage to others.

Of course, there were generous and regular beer tasting along the way. The highlight was a visit to an inspirational brewpub just out of Berlin (www.meierei-potsdam.de) where the owner has a sparkly Kasper Schultz brewery turning out some fantastic brews , great food and a location to die for.....yes, we were jealous!

I'm jealous too! Pesky mother deciding to visit just when that course was on...

Well, actually work was the problem.

Glad to hear you thought it was good though. I plan on doing it next year.

Yeah, I had it in my calendar

Unfortunately I'm in the process of buying a house, so can't afford it this year (in terms of both time and cash!).

Is it safe to assume that when it's all be done that you will be producing a special "Barry's German Farmhouse Ale"?

The name is pretty much a given; I don't think you can get away from it.

I dunno if "Bauernhaus Bier" has a market potential here
