Keep it up. When the Wiki is live you'll be able to add everyhing yourself

The map has just been updated. 6 breweries added to Carlow (2 each in Carlow, Tullow and Athy), and additional ones in Offaly (Shinrone and Birr) and Tipperary (Borrisokane).

Thanks n1mbus

*Note that Google caches the map files, so it may be tomorrow before it is refreshed, but you can download the KMZ via the article link, and that'll be fresh.

The website to Mountain View guest house has a little mention of the St. Brigid's Well brewery in it's history section[/url:1nxnobd0]

It appears that this thread may have lost a bit of momentum but I got some great info about Blakes Brewery in Tuam.

Blakes was located in a building which is now known as Murphy's Furniture Stores, by the banks of the River Nanny. The building has a circular shape and the legend in Tuam is that it was shaped this way to accommodate the driving of a millstone by an ass (Why a building by a river would need an ass to drive the mill I don't know)

The Blakes were an interesting bunch and one of their business approaches was to pay suppliers with credits to purchase Blake's stock and goods in town. There are a number of these "beer tokens" extant and my father is going to try and borrow one to photograph for the wiki.

The Brewery was one of a number of businesses that failed soon after the railway arrived to Tuam. Apparently there was a small concern in Dublin which supplied cheaper beer.

Very nice

The thread has lost momentum because we want to get the Wiki in action so [i:20lf7jrm]it[/i:20lf7jrm] will be the vehicle for adding to or reading about the lost breweries.

The Wiki has been coming along in jumps and starts, mainly due to personal commitments over the past month, but we'll be putting in a surge this month so hopefully it'll be ready, at least in skeleton form, by October. After that you'll all be able to enter in your research!

There's a Phoenix mirror in O'Neill's on Suffolk Street as well.

Sorry, that wasn't a dig!

I'll be putting a bit of work into this in the meantime and it should be in a decent state come October.
