But don't you feel better for it, feeding your mind rather than your belly? <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D --> But thanks! <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

Did they give a number for the brewery on South Main Street by any chance?

Y'all have to stop finding more for a while to let me catch up a bit <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

No number, in either the ad or the directory itself. Looking at the map, Crescent Quay is parallel to South Main Street one block away. I'd be willing to bet that it was all one premises, with the grain coming off the boat at the back and the beer coming out onto Main Street at the front.

Good enough for me! Crescent Quay isn't that big, so we'll have a close enough point as a starter.

Apologies for length of time in replying - alas, my scanner is broken, but the piece is too long to scan anyway (the file wouild be huge) - email me a snailmail address to send it to at my pseudonym at blueyonder dot co dot yewkay and I'll send you a photocopy ...

Better yet, if you could bring a copy to the GBBF on Tuesday you can exchange it for a pint of your choice (on the ICB expense account, of course).

No luck with anymore info on breweries in Co Armagh/Down. I trawled old newspapers but there were only ads for Allsopps Ale and Bass, along of course with Guinness. Think by all accounts many places bottled stout in years gone by.

Will keep trying...got a lead on a James Johnston, malster & brewer who ws still about in 1910...will keep you posted.
