Erdinger is not the best of wheat beers but it is the most widely available and as such it's not bad as a 'fall back' beer when nothing else decent is available on tap. On a slightly related note I've noticed a lot of pubs have been getting in Hoegaarden, Budvar and Staropramen on tap recently so there must be a push on from whoever supplies them.[/quote:3jq1tgbx]
I too find Erdinger to be a bit bland, but on a very hot day it can be just what the doctor ordered. I think the Oktoberfest Erdinger is pretty good. I used to think the Dunkle one was really good but the last time I had it, I found its sweetness to be cloying.

It's good to see Hoegaarden, Budvar and Staropramen crop up in more pubs. I had a pint of Hoegaarden in a shit boozer. Pleasant.

Yay! Education! I should be there - although I'm even more of a useless, non-brewing bit of random anatomy than TheBeerNut or DrJohn, as they know far more than me about beer; all the talk in the rest of the thread of various yeasts and hops and IBUs and stages of fermentation has my head fairly spinning

But I see it as a way to help myself learn, rather than help any of ye

Besides, if we didn't do things that frightened us, we'd never get anything done.

Hmmm, must get basic college texts and remind myself of all those bits of my degree I completely ignored.

Forgot about Weinstephaner, Great Weisse...

If any B@C are watching, we've been asking Eurobeers to source Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA for us.. Its a top notch IPA that we really would like to get in. Maybe if someone else was asking it might make it across the sea... Hint, Hint Would be great to have at the tasting!

Yeah, the 90 minute is top notch. It weighs in around 9% abv but you wouldn't know it. The one problem I havew with Dogfish Head IPA's is that they claim they are a hophead's dream but I'll be deamned if I got much hop character, other than bitterness from any of them. I've tried the 60, 90 and 120 minute aswell as their Double IPA and have a bottle of the 120 in my fridge at the moment. I get a couple of bottles from my sister-in-law when she comes home to Dublin for a visit. I also have some Raison D'etre and their Indian Brown ale. OK, now I'm just trying to make you all jealous........

Just wondering... If the plan for this is to kick off at around 7p.m does everyone intend on staying until the end? How about fitting in dinner somewhere in the middle? Just thinking out loud here... Tasting, Food, More Tasting... I think it would split the night up well...
