Sumerian god of beer was a woman Ninkasi!

I used to see it in The Long Stone in Townsend Street in Dublin. Haven't been in there in ages though.[/quote:2tjrsvon]

Anseo on Camden St used to stock it. The last few times I was there though it was gone.

It kind of goes against my atheistic leanings, but I could probably deal with that A bit too worshipful though?

How about this Greek one though?

SILENUS: God of Beer Buddies and Drinking Companions. He's fat, bald, hairy and drunk.

SILENUS is the teacher and debauched buddy of DIONYSUS, and taught him such tricks as balacing a wine glass on your nose and how to open a bottle of wine with your teeth.

We don't know exactly what happened to SILENUS, but we do know he was granted immortality by the Gods. We have the feeling we might have seen him here and there over the years; the fat bald bearded character who is always seen drunk and incapable slumped in the corners of pubs.

If you see two of these characters at once, one may be DIONYSUS or BACCHUS — or you may just have been over-indulging.

Well I tend to pick and chose the gods I believe in on the day - usually the sun god, wind god (windsurfing), money god and beer god get fairly regular thoughts. Thankfully they don't tell you that you can't have sex before marriage, and that you must forsake all other gods. What a load of rubbish!

That Silenus sounds like a good one - his description reminds me a bit of some of the Happy Buddhas

Although his name reminds me of Silas from the Davinci Code, and he was an OpusDei freak. Not so keen on him now...

Let me see... German's I'd advise would be Hacker Pschorr Sternweisse or even its standard Heffe. Also Paulaner, Augustiner Heffe Weisse and Maisels Weisse. As for Belgians St. Bernardus Blanche and maybe Hoegaarden Grand Cru to pair with it's standard???

P.s if the beer fairy is watching, most of these are available from Eurobeers but might be pre order material...

Actually, they do also have Paulaner now. Forgot to put that in the previous post. Paulaner and Maisels used to be my favourite Weiss Biers when I was really into that type.

And Eurobeers is one of their suppliers, so that's good.
