What games that go well with beer? 14 years 2 months ago #1

Pubs have traditionally been places where games are played. Pool, darts and skittles are traditional examples, but they are rarely seen these days due to safety concerns and equipment/space costs, while cards and dominoes seem to have all bus disappeared all by themselves.

I think games are important and make the pub a more fun place to be, so the lack of games is a problem, in my opinion.

Craft beer specialist pubs seem to be making an effort to bring the games back, with chess and other board games available, but what would you like to see? Is there something you like to play at home, when you have some friends over? Is there a game you have played in a pub and you wonder why it isn't offered in other places?

'Rings' is an ideal pub game. Low cost and safer than darts!

You know, I don't think I've ever played Rings.
Looks good and it has the physical and communal fun elements you get with the likes of darts and skittles.

They used to have rings in the gravediggers, dunno if that's still the case.

Theres a great game in some of the pubs in Frankfurt where they have a tree trunk like post of wood, and you have to hammer nails into it with the skinny end of a certain type of hammer, so not the hammering end. Totally non health and safety, as hammers and drink don't really mix, but great fun!

Draughts is a great game for bars. I remember playing it in a pub in portlaoise. Sadly like so many of these things the pub changed hands and the new owners rebuilt it and made it yuppie.
