i've always found a pool table to be an annoying thing to have in a pub, especially if the pub is busy

Ive seen dominoes played in a couple of places.
Where im from in tallaght they still play it in the local. But this relatively new since the pub trade started slowing there, because i know previous to that, anything like this was banned. It was only until a group of locals asked, while politely saying, "we can play games up the road in the other pub if ya want"
Also when im out at ireland games, i have a pint in the beggars bush, there's a group of lads who play dominos up at the back end of the bar.

To be honest - I think theyre a bit of a distraction at times, but I do enjoy a game of pool. For me, it has to be something you can pick up and leave down easily. Dont want to be investing the whole night in concentrating on a game.

Im going to a texas holdem night on friday - that for instance involves investing most of the night in the game, but its a once off fund raiser for a football team.

I'm not a fan of games in pubs, as playing games and practising the art of conversation are generally not two things that go well together. I think the only thing that should be playing (sometimes) is a bit of music.

The best pub games are the ones that are also spectator sports, so definitely any of the outdoor throwy sorts. Hilden have giant Jenga in their garden as well, which strikes me as a good one for summer's evenings.

You have to love a good table quiz. One of my friends runs them 5 nights a week and does on our old local in a Saturday night. Drop down every couple of weeks. Good laugh but not much of a beer choice.
