Used to play this a lot in the pub (and indeed out of it too)
The version we played everyone got one card. You could pass the card on to the next person, and take theirs instead. Unless they had a King, in which case they turned it over and you were stuck with what you had. When everyone has had a go, all cards turned over and the lowest card lost a life (of which you had 3). As you say, great fun when there’s a big gang of people and it’s quick.

yeah thats exactly it. Couldnt remember whether there were 2 cards - but you're right it was only 1. If ya got an ace you were laughin.

I used to do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Technically known as the gayest looking sport in the world. The Christmas party ended up downstairs in that pub underneath the Stephens Green shopping center (I think it was an Aussie pub). Eventually it ended up with a 30 of us standing around watching whichever 2 had decided to fight that particular round. The bouncers decided to join in the cheering on the grounds that it was funny and the two of them didn't fancy trying to kick out 30+ people

In Salford we used to call this "Hunt the **nt"
