I saw Toad-in-the-Hole being played one Sunday in Brussels in a tiny pub alleyway. A contraption like this was brought out:

There seemed to be a regular crowd of players and spectators so was probably a good way to drive early Sunday trade.

This is what I mean about getting the balance right. People should be able to enjoy their games but people should also be able to enjoy the pub without the game interfering with them. It's like music; it's fine, but if it stops me having a conversation with the people at the table with me, I would rather go elsewhere.

I think this is what most traditional pub games have in common: they are fun for those playing, they may even be fun to watch and inject a bit of life into a quite pub, but they don't interfere with the conversation at the bar.

Retro reconditioned pinball machines (you can get them with reduced or no sound output)

Retro arcade games - should be free of charge though (sponsored by a brewery? get a token at the bar when you buy a pint of xx)

Grants Whisky produced these custom build triangular pool tables for a promotion in the UK a few years ago, they were a big hit..

The Pembury Tavern in north-east London has a fine selection of games and has become famous for their game nights. Here's a selection..

[/quote:20ckn6uh] Yeah, reduced noise would be a good idea there I think.

[url:20ckn6uh]http://www.individualpubs.co.uk/pembury/games.html[/url:20ckn6uh][/quote:20ckn6uh] That is the first time I have seen the likes of Carcassonne, Fluxx and Cheapass Games offered in a pub. I have a bunch of such more obscure games myself, but then I am a gaming geek. I didn't think that the average pub goer would be interested in the likes of Settlers of Catan.
