sandyford has the edge over blanch - in terms of location at least IMO. Its got good public transport in the luas - that green line is a great service, only 20 mins from town. And its close to the m50 there too.
however i couldnt see many ppl from the n side going too much out of their way to travel accross when they can get most things online. And visa versa for ppl on s side heading too far north.
But can you justify setting up a specialist shop somewhere like sandyford. Will you not be getting people who already use online shops. In order to gain new customers i would have thought you would need to locate somewhere there is a large body of shoppers on a daily basis. Ie town or one of the shopping centres.

I'd be delighted to be able to cycle there from time to time

Are you looking for staff already?

Great idea Donal. I travel around for work, so where is not really an issue and i know i would travel to pick up small things rather then order them on line (i like to see and feel before i buy ).

I'd personally second that location, for my purposes at least!
On a more serious business note though, would you consider teaming up with a specialty beer off-license to sell homebrew items in order to ease the high rents in Dublin? This is pretty typical where I'm from in the states and seems to be a good business model.

But Thundercut is pretty Awesome too!

As for the recommendations, how many people are recommending somewhere close to where they live or work?

You'd have to be considering why anybody would want a shop in Dublin?

I'd say main reason would be to pick stuff up in a hurry, and smallish stuff at that.
If you're buying a lot of stuff delivery doesn't really become a factor so you'd buy online, but if you did buy bulky stuff you would have to make sure you had decent enough parking.
Also, you wouldn't want to be carrying anything too bulky on public transport and public transport costs become an issue too if you factor that in compared to buying online
