[quote:x1p180ly] I wonder where the UK's Heineken is brewed. Anybody?
[/quote:x1p180ly]
I seem to remember reading a few years ago that all UK Heineken is imported from The Netherlands. At the same time, they upped the strength to 5% to make it a "premium" product. That's just from memory (gradually failing!)as it's not a product I ever wanted to drink when I lived there.

The old 3.5% version, which was contract brewed by a number of UK breweries, is no longer made. I have all this on good authority[/url:2o9ntee1] (see comments).
The Irish dimension of the deal is being delayed a further 30 days by the Competition Authority, while everything else is going ahead. Heineken Ireland are saying that they are not buying the third biggest company in this area, but the fourth. They argue that C&C, makers of Bulmers, ought to be counted in. Beer and cider are basically the same thing to them, it seems.
And the comedy line of the week:

*salutes*
They have a point. With these 'Big 4', we may now be limited to a choice between Guinness, Carlsberg, Heineken and Bulmers in the local pub. That's unthinkable...
