Yet it was getting hyped as the American style IPA Ireland was waiting for?

The silence here speaks volumes.
I really believe (and I'm sure the brewers would agree with me)that brewers need genuine feedback on their beers and not just a "aren't you wonderful for being an Irish micro" attitude.
I find it odd that if everyone here thinks it is a good beer, they're not defending it - I can only surmise that most here find it average or poor but won't say so for fear of hurting someone's feelings or have the misguided notion that it would be better for the brewery to say nothing rather than give genuine feedback.

But you seem to be suggesting that the feedback would be better posted to this forum rather than sent to the brewers.

Sending negative feedback to the brewers could well help improve their beer. Posting it to a public forum doesn't really do much except increase the amount of negativity posted to web forums. I say this as someone who regularly posts negative reviews of beers to the Internet on my blog, but I'm not suggesting that my doing so is somehow good for the brewers or the drinkers.

It is normal to feel uncomfortable about publishing something negative. I think that's the only proper inference to be drawn from any perceived silence here.

When you like a beer, tell us; tell the world. When you don't, tell the brewer.

While that makes a lot of sense, ponder this scenario:

Person drinks the beer and finds it rather uninspiring.
Comes on here to see what the beer folk think and sees that there seem's to be no issue - just one or two grumblers - so he/she assumes that all is well with the beer and never drinks it again.
Beer stays the same.

A second scenario:

Person drinks the beer and finds it rather uninspiring.
Comes on here to see what the beer folk think.
Finds a discussion where people voice their honest opinions.
Brewer reads, takes note and assures people on forum that the first batch wasn't up to scratch and changes are afoot.
Beer improves.
Person tries it again, notes improvement and becomes a regular drinker of said beer.
Everyone wins.
