Slightly OT perhaps but I think it's relevant in the broader context of what keegan ales has been talking about.
I went to Martins last night and realised how much(new)stock in the craft section and floor space is Coors, CBA or other non independent breweries. The Irish beer is almost invisible in the fridges. Just an observation.
For me, and i suspect for most here, I have an informed opinion when I'm buying my beer, re. ownership (or most of the time). Do I want to support only local breweries/independents or am I happy to buy good beer knowing it's not independent. For me that's an easy choice, and I will buy it with no hand wringing. ( although its usually only ever Goose Island)
However, for most I suspect people they don't have this amount of knowledge about ownership and believe all these breweries are independent "craft" breweries. And as such think they are supporting a small company. I don't think there is really any way of addressing this issue, it's in all industries. If you were to boycott proctor and gamble or unilver sure you'd never be able to wash or eat ben and jerry's. Beer like all other commodities is no different and if indepedent beer at all costs is your bag, then best get up to speed with all the brands.
