Really mean that you need mental toughness or just be mental to put up with them.

The brewery now has a legal obligation to maxmise shareholder value to Coors Shareholders.

For me this is no longer an independent Brewery and for this reason no longer a craft brewery.

I strongly believe it is unfair that the word craft is now associated with FW, and then they are going to compete with other craft beers without the same backing. The idea that Coors can sell craft beer and compete with small independent Irish breweries is unfair. This could be detrimental to the Irish craft beer scene and could result in a net loss of jobs.

The use of the word craft by coors, Anheiser Busch or Diageo is cynical and dreamt up by a bunch of strategists in some boardroom in america or Britain. Its the same strategy that was used with Smithwicks pale ale which was "craft brewed".

I think how these beers are labelled in Ireland is an issue that needs to be addressed. The name coors or Diageo should be as prominent as the word craft.

I won't be drinking any FW again. Anyway thats my bit of a rant, watched beer wars last week and i'm pretty annoyed at the moment. I wonder how i'll feel tomorrow <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt="" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

Ok - they certainly will no longer be independently owned, nor will they be a micro when the new brewery is up and running.

However I'm not comfortable with the notion amongst some that the product they produce will of a lesser quality as a result.

I'll still be drinking their beers until my taste buds tell me otherwise!

Goose Island still tastes the same as does Redhook ESB and Kona Brewing's Coconut Porter and all have been brewed by AB-Inbev for a couple years now; but I agree that eventually, despite impeccable sanitation practices, that mega brewery shareholders infect beer and spoil it.


I still drink all three of the afore mentioned beers on occassion because my taste buds haven't told me otherwise yet.

I honestly don't see the FW purchase being as strategic for Molson Coors as buying out a craft brewery in the US; as long as craft breweries in Ireland can self-distribute they can keep clawing for more marketshare; in the US the Big 2 have such a strangle hold on distribution and much of the country still enforces the mandatory 3 tier distribution system (which the big two abuse such that its actually worse than not having it at all); when they buy out well-known microbreweries they can insert it into their closely partnered distribution networks and provide it as an "alternative" to consumers in place of craft beer from independent breweries.

It's even more nasty business over here...

Quite frankly, if Molson Coors starts making Shandon Century extra stout on a regular basis, I'll still be super happy.

(So sad to see that beer win beer of the year and to hear the consumer demands to see it released again denied time after time...)

Maybe if I write a letter to Molson/Coors THEY'LL listen...

IMO we have lost a craft brewery in Ireland. It maybe great for Cork to have a microbrewery been taken in by a macro brewery, but it is incredibly cynical of these companies to buy the word craft and will if allowed destroy the craft brewery in Ireland if allowed.

Craft is a philosophy that puts taste, flavour, authenticity and a deep passion and love for beer above shareholders and profit. Independent breweries most closely aspire to craft brewing where a brewer or a couple of brewers can brew small batches, take risks and brew with a care and a love for the beer that doesn't make it in the Coors boardroom.

Should Coors be shown on the bottle?

Can we allow the word craft be used on these beers?
