I think the growth projection of craft beer to 10% by revenue of the Irish market in 5 years is really unrealistic... would I be right in saying that UK and US are both around 5% of the market by unit volume? (not sure what % by Revenue) and they are way more mature markets than Ireland

I, for one, won't be drinking any more of their beers. What we want is to revive the great Irish tradition of local artisan brewing, not brand-building. Besides, while this may create a couple of extra jobs, ultimately the profits are exported. A consolidation of Irish brewers would be much more favourable. How long before O'Hara's gets gobbled up?

Good article here on the trend of small-brewery takeovers by multi-nationals and the general hushed nature of the acquisitions. It's not just America, though. I bought a rake of Belgian and German bottles the other day and half of them were owned by Heineken, much to my dismay.

Maybe the correct response should be: "Wonder how the langers on "www.peoplesrepublicofcork.com will take it"

Hopefully the festivals in the pub will continue as is and wont restrict other breweries from taking part. I like the FW beers, but not as much as I like the pub.

Also, would it be worth stockpiling a few bottles of Rebel Red brewed by an independent brewery to blind taste test it against Rebel Red brewed by the multinational conglomerate <!-- s;) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt="" title="Wink" /><!-- s;) -->
