I haven't been on here in a while (moved out of my apartment recently + the judging of the National Off Licence Awards has started) but i bring some good news...

It is really unfortunate that Eurobeers have gone. They were a really good supplier to work with, true beer lovers. I think nationally there was something like a 10% drop in drink sales this summer. The weather i would think played a big part in that...

But to the good news. We have found a supplier that has told us they can fill the gap without a problem. I have a short list of some of the beers they stock in my hand right now, and i can honestly say that it looks good. And guess what? Goose Island IPA is apperently one of their standards.

As for the Oktoberfest beers... We are desperatly trying to get them in but it looks like we are going to be confined to Erdinger Oktoberfest and Spaten Oktoberfest. Disapointing alright[/quote:2seaxzke]
That's a big relief. Pity there's unlikely to be more Oktoberfest beers but I think Spaten Oktoberfest is really nice anyway.

Hey,
I finally spoke with Barry of Eurobeers yesterday.
It seems that there won't be a problem with supplying the Abbots Ale House.
The range should stay much the same.
Horray!!

A section from the realbeers monthly newsletter

"Goodbye to a good friend of Realbeers.ieThe premium beer market has been in turmoil this summer, due to the going out of business of one of the best wholesalers in the country for beer, Eurobeers, in Cork. This has had a devastating impact on our list which we are working hard to replace. Thank you to our customers who have borne with us as we have worked through the consequences of the demise of Eurobeers. We would also say good luck to Eurobeers owner Barry Fitzgerald who is a true champion of the independent beer sector. We feel sure he will be back. New Beers on the siteWhile our Belgian beer list has been sorely hit by the closing down of Eurobeers, we have introduced new lines this month. Take a look at the Mardesous range, and also the Dutch Trappist beer La Trappe. Also coming new to the site this month are a number of Australian and New Zealand beers, which we have been constantly asked for, Speights, Hahn, and Boag."

I'm no rush to order Hahn or Boag anyway. Not sure what Speight is like.

Hahn is probably the best of the Aussie lagers (that wouldn't be hard, I hear you say) but you wouldn't fall over yourself to get it.

As for Speights it depends which one they're getting. The Gold Medal Ale is nothing special but Speights Old Dark is quite nice.
