Starting a brewery: the megathread 13 years 9 months ago #146

Afternoon all,
I'm wondering about the logistics/costs of brewing on a small scale. I would like to produce a few beers in-house in a café environment here in Italy. I'm looking for advice on the practical side of things and the equipment needed.

A lot of beoir members would have quite advanced brewing operations in their sheds. Essentially, that's what I'm interested in. Space is at a premium. Relatively speaking, it would be a shoestring budget, with the idea being to guage the success of the project before considering more serious investment. So, I suppose what I'm asking is this: leaving all the associated Irish bureaucratic overheads to one side, for how much could a teeny little microbrewery like this be started for?

If space at a premium, go to the Speidel[/url:1jz6lpix] website and price an appropriate sized Braumeister and two fermenters.

Or to start at the bottom end...the price of a few buckets and a boiler similar to one you may use to heat water for tea.

Ideally, I'd like to make some of the elements visible to the punters. There's a certain aesthetic consideration that I'm interested in, otherwise I'd go the buckets-route without a second thought. However, I could always just use props if needs be. The most important thing is for customers to understand that the beer is made in-house.
