Yeah it's not for sale as a distillation kit in this country it's just a wash kit that you then go and flavour yourself to make a 23% or so liqueur. It's only coincidental really that the same wash can be distilled.....

Can be used for water distillation of course!

Well any brewer can used distilled water to ensure that his water profile starts with a known, i.e. distilled water and then you add your Burton salts for example to get the burton water profile. Makes sense to stock them for that.....

Well surely selling the equipment isn't illegal, it's the act of distelling that illegal.

It's like those shops that sell equipment for growing cannabis plants. Having the equipment is not illegal, it's the act of growing the plants that will get you in trouble with the law.

I'd be fairly sure there is some legislation restricting the possession of a still.

"Honestly Guard it's for chilling my wort"

For one thing, it probably wouldn't be the Guards. Revenue have been around a lot longer and have search and seizure powers the cops can only dream of.

However, I think that argument would work. The letter of the law is "No person may ... Have or use a still for distilling, rectifying, or compounding spirits"

The operative word there is "for": as long as you can prove it's for some other purpose, you should be in the clear.

But don't quote me. If Revenue feel like hanging you out to dry for it, they probably will.
