Have bought quite a few beers claiming to be IPAs over the last year or so and found there to be quite a variation.

Is there one beer that is the perfect defintion, or even the perfect centre of the defintion of an IPA?

And is there more than one defintion of an IPA (ie English and American)?

Looking for a beer which perfect defintion, ie typical, not a beer that is definitive (there are none).

On that basis, what is a very typical, average, middle ground IPA?

Broadly, IPAs are either the citric American sort or the earthy English sort. Try Goose Island for the former and Fuller's for the latter.

Perfect, thanks. That's what I was looking for. I've had Fuller's (lovely) and Goose Island is going on the shopping list.

I'm sure there are a few examples of bad ones. I've had a few dissapointiong IPA's, but can't remember of the top of my head.
