lads...get say 200 of us and each throw in a grand and we could do it...little bit more complex but where there is a will there is a way...darcy's was the best stout ever produced in this city and it was a sad day when i rang them up to hear they had ceased production....so lets start a campaign to bring back darcy's...a grand a head id not too much to ask to be part of something extraordinary...is it!

I reckon you'd need more than 200 thousand to get it running properly but it is an intersting proposition. Do you think we could keep all 200 of us happy with respect the brewery's philosophy and beer styles? Sounds like a nightmare clash of ideals and egos to me. I'll humbly take the role of Master Brewer.........

200? I looked at the members list and there are only 79 members on the site here. <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->
Home and craft brewing are not big things in Ireland. I visited a microbrewery in England recently and with a small output they are kept going winning awards and supplying casks for local pubs and bottles for export. Maybe I am cynical but I couldn't help thinking that it just wouldn't work here. Though maybe in time with changing tastes it will become feasible in Ireland.

well it wouldnt be easy thats for sure...maybe we could get an i.d.a grant if they still exist....have an elected board and with a brewmaster, sales/advertising/marketing position and i guess another to run the day to day stuff. we would all vote on these matters and make decisions at bi-monthly meetings. all very civilised all together! stranger things have happened....

Enterprise board grants are the way to go. They
offer up 75K in capital grants and also feasability study grants. As I say it's an interesting idea; those who don't want to get their hands dirty could act as shareholders.

The times, they are a changin', no doubt about that and I'm pinning my hopes of opening a brewery on this very premise. The revolution has already started and I think we'll look back at the Porterhouse, The Franciscan Well and The Galway Hooker Brewery as those who stepped into a very hostile market place first and laid the path for the rest of us to follow.

times really are changing...i remember college friends who would only drink bud coming round and trying some of my brews and their eyes being opened...now they might not have a huge love of most beers but they will drink more than 6 brands...its a start i guess...at prices these days you may as well really enjoy what your drinking and more people are willing to try new brands out....im sure the export market is what keeps alot of our microbreweries going...that could be a stumbling block too.
the manager in the bull and castle was telling me they get the beer off a middle man and the cost just becomes prohibitive..i suggested he get some black biddy in and he seemed to think through these middle men it would cost a small fortune.....i offered to drive down and get it myself and give it to them for cost! anything to get some quality beers into dublin...its a pilgtimmage to the well in cork next week for me just to stay sane!
