Bank holiday weekend in Ireland, so it is like a Friday night for many of us.

And funnily enough, I've been shuffling my last can of Red Racer around the press this week, wondering when to indulge. Great American IPA, even though it's Canadian. <!-- s;) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt="" title="Wink" /><!-- s;) -->

But tonight it's Odell Myrcenary, a hop bomb that takes some time to get your head (and tongue) around, but gets tastier with every sip.

It's got that juicy pineapple thing at the end that I've tasted in most Lagunitas beers; it just makes them compulsively sippable. Anybody know what hop gives that flavor?

Did some initial research and I can't find the name of the pineapple taste chemical so basically a dead-end. Some Brett strains can produce pineapple flavors but Lagunitas is NOT a Brett brewer so that's out. Myrcene supposedly doesn't contribute any flavors but can definitely be used in later reactions to product all sorts of flavors. Ethyl Acetate ("nail polish remover" in high concentrations can produce "pear drop" flavors that I find similar to pineapple but it shouldn't really be in a normal beer).

In a nutshell, I've run into all dead-ends on any sort of pineapple flavor... I tried, though.

Artificial fruit flavours are all esters (I can thank my Chemistry teacher for that nugget!), so googling for [i:1iqoe7ta]fruitname ester[/i:1iqoe7ta] usually yields results.

Pineapple flavour is probably this one:
