Mornin' all - Anton from Dublin here.
I used to be content - able to walk into any pub and order a generic stout or lager, and none of that ale, thank you very much. Then I met Séan. He slowly but surely introduced me to real beer. Started off with weissbeer, then actual real stouts, then IPAs, then ales.
Now, I'm sad. Can't go into a random pub and just say "I'll have a..." No. I have to walk up to the bar, see what taps they have, frown, lean over the counter and look in the fridge in the (usually) vain hope of an O'Haras or Howling Gale.
Can't have the missus suggest a weekend away somewhere (maybe even once a year!) without whipping out the Beoir app to check on the beer situation (Wexford, you poor, poor, county!)
Given I work in the city centre, things aren't [i:1dntddly]too [/i:1dntddly]bad - most of my friends are huge fans of Kavanaghs and Mulligans and I work in walking distance of The Black Sheep. But they're a little too out of the way for most of us, so tend to be for special occasions. And our "local", Ryans on Queen Street, at least has Hooker on draught and a small variety of other imported beers.
So given I live near absolutely no decent pubs, what does one do of an evening while playing Warcraft (which, by the way, has a strong brewing theme this expansion!)?
The answer was obvious - persuade my wife that what she really wanted to buy me for xmas was an extract brewing kit...
