That mentions CCTV inside and outside every club, which probably happens anyway, but the idea of CCTV outside every pub is just another case of lumping rural pubs in with the city centre ones. Who wants a pub in some rural backwater with CCTV outside the door? Pointing at someone's Jack Russell tied up with a piece of twine.

Anyway, all will be revealed today[/url:2yw9hax6], it seems.

A little bit of romantic notion that all the trouble is in the cites and towns

Anyway supposable in London 90% of CCTV footage is not admissible in court due to its crap quality. I would be surprised if they did a better job here

No it's not. Yes, people in rural areas should be, and are, security-aware - but to be forced by legislation to have CCTV pointing at your pub door is a waste of time in many locations. In rural Ireland you're probably more likely to be burgled than for there to be a brawl at the pub door, which is what I presume the CCTV is there for.

That sonic boom you hear is caused by a knee, jerking at hitherto undreamt-of speeds.

What's the betting that it's a load of half-arsed bollocks?

I'd give you odds of about 1/200, that this afternoon we'll be reading a load of ill thought-out nonsense that'll be a massive failure. (Again!)

At that price I'll be buying money.

There'll be another set of laws to curb "binge drinking" along within 5 years: 1/1
The new laws will be to the advantage of the publicans: 1/1,000,000,000
Shane McGowan becomes the new spokesman for whatever quango is set-up to promote this nonsense: 300/1

Offies to close at 10pm under the proposed new legislation. That'll be a pain in the arse.

Supermarkets will have to physically separate the booze from the rest of their stock, as in Northern Ireland. Nanny says "Don't touch".

Despite this,

As a society, we need to take responsibility both collectively and individually in order to address the problems arising from excessive consumption of alcohol. We need to examine our acceptance of heavy drinking and the signal that this is sending, particularly to our young people.

Government has a clear responsibility to ensure that our laws and regulations are supportive of cultural change in this area. The draft Bill published today is a concrete example of the Government’s determination to do its part in changing attitudes to alcohol consumption.[/quote:3j0f0gqo]

I wonder did the person who wrote that actually see the draft Bill, because it appears to do the complete opposite.

And there's more drink legislation to come in the autumn.
