O'Hara's Double IPA 13 years 2 weeks ago #7

No longer on draught at the B&C but I can ask about getting another keg of it in.

O'Hara's only brewed around 2000+ litres of the stuff so there might not be much of it left. Seamus said they'd brew again if if sold ok for them though so I imagine it will be making a return.

I was pretty disappointed in this. Whats the double mean?

Double malt, double hops, double alcohol. O'Hara's DIPA was at the lower end of the scale though, still a good beer though imo.

I never thought I'd turn into a "style nazi" but...

It's not really a "Double IPA", is it? So why call it that? Does it [b:mnhua120]drink [/b:mnhua120]like a DIPA, anyone?

Similarly, I can't stand breweries calling regular pale ales "IPA" when they're under 5% ABV. Pure marketing BS, I suspect.

Everything on a beer label or tap badge is marketing. "BS" just because you disagree with it? Sub-5% ABV IPAs have been around since at least the 1930s. IPA as a stronger version of Pale Ale only dates to about the 1970s.

Probably about the same time that the story started that IPAs where brewed stronger for the journey to India. Love to know who started that BS.
