They do indeed.

In Amsterdam there is a bar that if you want to drink Kwak from the proper glass with the wooden holder then you hand over a shoe as a deposit. Its put in a basket and hoisted up into the ceiling. When you return the glass you get your shoe back.

Ask any one other than the Irish this question:

If a pint of beer is €4 then how much is half a pint - they naturally say €2!!

WRONG WRONG WRONG

Its more likeley to be 2-20 or 2-30!!

Most countries divide by two and round up the half cent

The amount of product you get is rarely proportional to the overall price though. E.g. a 16oz sirloin will never cost twice as much as an 8oz.

When you order a half pint you are still taking up a bar stool, watching the tv, enjoying the heating and taking up the bartender's time. All those cost money

This attitude helps decrease sales and then the cost of the bar stool will increase as a proportion of sales. There are no sales if there's no-one occupying the bar seat and charging 3/4 the price of a pint for 1/2 the measure leads to that.

I hate this attitude here, one of the pluses about Against the Grain was their half pint pricing policy.

Like I said, no one complains when a steak that is 50% smaller isn't 50% cheaper. Why is beer treated any different?

The Female Market 13 years 6 months ago #17

When you get your smaller steak you still get a full dinner besides, you dont get 1/2 the chips and mushrooms!

I have to agree with Irish goat on this,It's called the economy of scale and if it wasn't for it the group buys on the NHC wouldn't be the great value that they are.
