In the Abbot the other evening to pick up a a few bottles for a friend.

Great US selection at the moment - at least 4-5 Sierra Nevedas, incl 2008 bigfoot, few Goose Islands and a lovely Anchor Brewing Company speial winter ale brewed for Christmas 2008 - different recipe each year the bottle says!. Drinking it whilst writing this!!! 5.5% 355ml btl. Lovely rich warming very dark / almsot black i colour. Definitely more substance to it than Bah Humbug and Rosey Nosey or whatever it is called. By far a better seasonal drink HIghly rcomemnded!! A couple more I cannot think of at the moetn but definitely well stocked with US beers at the momenet if anyone is interested.

I had the Anchor 'Our Special Ale' recently, it smelled and tasted like Christmas Pudding. A nice Christmas beer, I wouldn't drink more than one in each sitting as it's quite full on.

I have a 1500 ml magnum of Anchor OSA sitting on the bar waiting for New Years. We don't need no stinking bubbly wine...

Abbots currently have the full range put up by Drinkstore Stoneybatter in last week or two - i.e. Manchester IPA and other English amd Welsh Breweries plus Snakedog IPA etc. Needless to say I picked up a nice selection. Upto 15 or so new beers at the one time is a great new addition at any time.

After about twenty minutes of circling the pub in a car I found a space and nipped in and didnt manage to get clamped ...Every time I visit this place I am really surprised by what they have. Although a lot were on a past their sell by date ( I dont really believe that crap) sale and selling for 1.50 a pop I managed to pick up 8 different nice beers mainly english ales...off the top of my head I got St peters golden ale,
Holy grail, and Black sheep Riggwelter which is very nice. Got a few german beers too and they had a special on brew dog so I picked up 3 rip tide stout for 10 bills and some hardcore Ipa and Physics amber ale.

It's comforting knowing I have a good reserve of quality beer......one of the steps on the road to alcoholism ....but its a nice road so far.
