My recent visis to Abbot Alehouse!!!! 18 years 7 months ago #1

Abbot Ale House Friday night 19th October

Went to the Abbot alehouse last Friday night. Don’t go too often as I usually tend to very much stock up when I do go – Friday was no different!!

Porterhouse Celebration Stout – Four 10% 500 ml bottles – for special occasions etc. Expiry date Christmas 2008
Goose island Indian Pale Ale 35.5 cl bottle 5.9% Honker Ale 4.3%
Summertime Kolsch style 4.7 ) All expiry 4/2008

Hommel Beer 500 and 750 ml bottles Expiry Dec 08

Out of Daters – 1 – 2 euros per bottle

Waggle Dance, Young’s honey beer 50 cl bottle – haven’t tried it before.
Hoegaarden Grand Cru – two 33 cl bottles - - really like Hoegaarden but never tried this before - looking forward to it!
Rogue Molcha porter – had their Santa's special Christmas reserve 2006 last year – enjoyed that and great selection from their website too. Hopefully will be good!!!
Zatel – Czech lager 4.6% 33 cal bottle - haven’t; got a clue!!!!!
Toohey’s Extra Dry cold-filtered 34 cl. btl - According to bottle Gold Medal Best dry lager World Beer Cup 1998
Dragon Stout – from Red stripe brewery Jamaica. Haven’t got a clue but could be interesting!!!! Hopefully! All part of the adventure.

Celebration Stout was 6.50 a bottle – 6 euros in Porterhouse last year so was expecting it to be about that but worth is a special drink. My whole bill came to 45 euros – good night’s shopping.

Was not in the Abbott since early in the year. In the meantime a lot more Heineken and coors and fridges in the place but still some gems there. Definitely worth a visit to any out of towners coming to Cork!!!!! Steady flow of customers whilst I was there which was good to see.

Just thought I would share the above with you good people!

I'm quite fond of Toohey's Extra Dry: it was my go-to beer in Oz.

Dragon is nice, though might be a bit sweet for some tastes.

I was there last Thursday and bought the honkers ale (loverly) and some steam beer because the last time i tried it i was drunk and i didn't like it but i've noticed i don't like complex beers when i'm drunk <!-- s:roll: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_rolleyes.gif" alt="" title="Rolling Eyes" /><!-- s:roll: --> o and brains bread of heaven bitter out of date with 11 months 66cl bottle for 1 euro. quite nice didn't taste stale but a bit light in the body for my ale taste and not quite as rounded as I would have liked . but 1 euro for 66cl. empty s great for filling my own home brew.

Back again in the Abbot a few times since. Good selection most of the time. Better on some visits but overall best selection of beers by far! Back on Saturday last priamrily for some Trappists but also picked up a Pagoa Stout and Pilsnes - Basque beers. Had heard of then before but never saw them. Have not tried them yet but looking forward. I believe the stout is not very heavy but nice to sample our Basque brethern's best beers. Also picked up a few Leffe Vieille Cuvee (purple wrapping on top of bottle) Apparnetly it is a relatively new beer, An 8.2% old amber beer with cream and aromatic taste the label says! I was told they just got in one case of them so grabbed a few. Just passing this on for what its worth!

Wasn't a big fan[/url:t4676olg] of the Pagoa Zunbeltz stout, but it's not unpleasant. The Leffe Veille Cuvée is currently a One Case Wonder at the Bull & Castle. Not tried it yet.
