Oh is this along the lines of Guinness Red? Sell something with the Guinnes name but that's even weaker and more bland than that "awfuly heavy, like a meal" pint?

What on earth gave you that idea, Barry?

No. Well, ok, I haven't tasted it, so maybe. But from what yer man was saying on the radio (ok, so he's going to give that sort of spiel, I know) it's just trying a different drink. And of course they're going to put it under their own name. But it's going to be bottles only (at least for the time being, though I didn't hear him say anything about going on draught) and it's certainly not going to be nitrogenated. The guy was disaparaging enough himself about Guinness Light from the 70s, saying this was a completely different thing, GL was 30 years ago, lower alcohol, lower flavour, nitrogenated..... Maybe they are just trying to make their own schwarzbier. Which Tosspot Doorley had clearly never heard of. I distinctly remember yelling at the radio "Try telling that to all the people in Germany, Austria, Czech Republic you cock", but can't remember what he said.

Oh, except I have remembered one further thing - at the end Doorley said either "They should have just called it Harpic Black" or "....Harp Black", I didn't catch it. David said he said Harpic, but that was because he didn't know Harp was yer stereotypical Norn Iron lager.

When I saw it on the papers I just instantly thought of all of them other things they tried. Guinness Red and Extra Cold seem to be targeted at that "oh no way I couldn't drink something as heavy and filling as guinness but I'll down 20 pints of yellow pissy liquid" crowd. Ye know that lot! the ones that don't like the taste of anything.
