Folks this brewery has nothing whatsoever to do with molson coors . The guys are ex molson management . They have vast experience and contacts in the market hence the wide distribution. Their brewery is being built and will be up and running early next year

That's what I'd heard. Thanks for the clarification Shane.

Apparently reported in the Liffey Champion that they are spending €1m on an old bakery site in Kilcock to turn into a brewery and create 30 jobs in the process.

Whatever about the merits of the beer, its a useful injection into the local economy in Kilcock.

I sat down this evening with Niall Phelan, one of the guys behind the brewery for the first of the 'Breweries of Ireland' interviews for the 11PM Somewhere Podcast.

The interview is over an hour in length - talking about the brewery, the beers, the branding, the plans for it, the investment, the history of brewing in Kilcock etc ...

I'm currently doing some post on it. It'll go up as this week's Episode of the show at the weekend.

Methinks some people are in for a shock when they hear this as tere's some major clarifications, details & explanations given, as Niall was super candid for the interview.

I really am hoping for their sake that the interview is as candid as you suggest Ian. It does sound like he's using this to get their message out and thats important as in the vaccuum there has been some idle speculation of what is the story behind them.

I suppose they've gone at things differently to the other native irish brewers in that they weren't necessarily engaged (the opposite of say for example metalman, rascals, stone barrel etc) in the scene already through home brew circles or hear for example. Quite literally popped up over night, and haven't necessarily open as to who and what they are.

I look forward to listening to this podcast man.

At the end of the day they are putting their money where their mouth is and spending €1m quid developing a brewery in Kilcock, a town that could desperately use that kind of investment.

It will most definitely spell out a crap-ton of stuff on this & does so right out the gate .....

Agreed, but this is a bunch of guys who have been in with the big machine, have contacts & we definitely get into how the brewery is funded

I value anyone who gives the podcast any of their valuable time to stick in their earholes. It's something I've fun doing; hopped with fact, my warped sense of humour, tongue in cheek, some shamless fanboi-ism & some 4-11 for some of the less initiated. All brought to listeners for free, with no ads, no sponsors & whatever good beer I can lay my hands on as I do it <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

We most definitely get into this on the podcast, why its important & how he's also taking an existing family business, integrating it into this new venture (Rye River Cafe) & what it means to them too.
