Re-badging/branding irish craft beer with a pub's name 14 years 8 months ago #25

We do need another brewpub in Dublin, though messrs will have to take down some signs if one arrives on the scene. If I had the money I would set one up.

He said to me many times that they are open to this - but obviously cost is an issue - they want a "cheap solution" - but do like the idea of brewing their own.

He said if someone could come in and kind of train them to brew a certain type of beer and get them sort of certified, if ya will, they'd be very happy - Like setting up a mcdonalds style brewing franchise. But i dont think they would be willing to take on a full-time employee to look after it.
We all know its never going to be that simple though.

As mentioned above - its all business at the end of the day. As far as they are concerned - its about turning a profit.

But there's a business idea brewing consultancy for pubs - advise on buying their gear, Get them going (look after all the legal-ease etc), train a few members of staff on the basics, do up an after sales support contract.
Pubs get cheaper beer the public get better beer (if it works out right). badabing bada booom everyones a winner - everyone except the pro brewers who might say it makes a mockery of the profession

Isn't that, more of less, what Dave Porter[/url:2spfbonu] does?

you have a brewery that is not at maximum brewing capacity, you are out in the market place looking for new pubs to stock your beer and sell it for you(and get paid). If a publican who is running a business as well believes a beer branded to his/her pub would be good for them then it is good business for you to provide that need. As time moves on and your own brand sales exceed your brew capacity then you can review matters.
There is no snobbery in business.[/quote:21yx52b2]

Further to this point, half the battle is getting a publican to be bothered to deal with a new supplier,(I'm not old and i remember some bars that didn't have heiniken because it wasn't available for order from guinness) if you are already delivering beer to them, they might be more willing to order a few kegs of your own brand!

I see this as a great part of starting up your own brewery as it is an easy way to start brewing at a higher capacity then you would if you didn't have publican buy in...[/quote:21yx52b2]

-There's two ways to play this game:
1. Give the pubs exactly what they want and try to convince them to carry your beer and do whatever it takes and become a "beer factory" (small beer factories that make great beer in an artisinal manner can still have a business that is effectively just a "beer factory) -I'm not saying this model is a bad thing; it's just a model. Certainly not one I'd want. (This is "play the game by the pubs rules".)
2. Focus on creating products that the markets demand and a market that demands your products; work with pubs who listen to that market/ your consumers and let them play the game by your rules

-These are two high-level STRATEGIES; in reality you have to jump through hoops and end up with a nice happy middle ground, but I do think it makes a difference whether you're focused on creating products and a market or squeezing in to some spare space left by the existing market.

Obviously it would be a batch whenever they have free fermenters ....a lot of pubs is USA do it. One micro supplies many bars each rename it....not that many punters question the exact source /recepie / heritage of beers bar the xxx number of members here[/quote:kd3o74xn]

Depends whether you're building a "beer factory" or a Brand and a Market.
