Gauging interest for custom Brew in a bag bags. 15 years 7 months ago #25

Hi Eoin,

My keg is 40cm in diameter and the top of the element is 40cm below the upper rim handle. I'd like a big bag to give the hops some freedom to roam

Cheers

My boiler dimensions seem to be roughly the same as Irish Party Ale's. About 42cm diameter and 56cm height. I haven't actually put any elements in this thing yet but I'm thinking they will sit about 10cm from the bottom.

I'd go for a BIAB bag and one of the hop bags that lets the hops run wild and free, for as the bible tells us, let the hops run wild and free.

OK guys, we're getting this together at home. The one for Eddie is taking a little longer than thought because the wife wasn't feeling great last night so it didn't get made.
I'm thinking Eddies design will be substantially different to the other ones as well in so far as it might not have a drawstring, simply because it won't be draping over the sides of the keggle as the other ones will. I'm thinking that even though the one I have is fine, we'll make another one that I can showcase the design with rather than the one I have now which I am loathe to put up as an example of the build quality simply because the finishing of the seams is not what I want to show people, when I know the new machine will finish it properly.
Watch this space in any case.

This worked a treat today. I'm very happy with the way the bag worked (even after i forgot all about it and had to fish the bittering hops out with a sieve and put them into the bag). No problems with clogged hop strainer at the end of brew and the bag was just rinsed and hung on the line to dry (dried with in 10-20 mins) for next weeks brew. Great design with a little pouch for weights to make sure the bag hung down and not float around (only realised the kid didn't have marbles so had to use some kerplunk marbles for weights, i don't think he minded). I'll be using this again next week for another APA.

Glad it's working out well for you Eddieken.

I'll be sorting out what's been discussed on this thread this week, have to go get some more voile on Monday, get in touch with you all soon.

Got the cloth now, just waiting on some stuff from ebay. I'd expect a good lot of these to be ready by Wednesday, but it is to some extent reliant on ebay stuff arriving in a timely manner, it's local enough though so should be midweek.
