Personally speaking, I don't see it as an issue, as I don't see a separation of interests.

IrishCraftBrewer.com, while originally built to cater for home brewers, has grown to cover a lot more than that, I feel. I don't know the breakdown, but it's clear there are many members who are not brewers, but the one thing that binds us all is an appreciation of beer, and I dare say a desire to see quality Irish-brewed beer being taken seriously.

When it comes to a name change, there'd be no "going back to ICB", and no need for Beoir to go solo, as such. This site, as we know and love it, will become a Beoir site (literally, as everything will move!), and within that site would be a special community of Irish Craft Brewers who carry on the craft of brewing quality beer at home. There's no loss of community, no loss of knowledge, and more importantly, no loss of the love of good beer and the craic in sharing it at the meets or any possible future Beoir/ICB events.

Another way I think of it, is that this community of like-minded individuals that we have here right now is Ireland's nebula for future commercial craft brewers. So what better than having a grass root movement of consumers that also spews out a new generation of micro brewers. Beautiful! And it's already happening!

So, as far as I'd interpret it, Beoir is intended to be a public-facing, easy to remember, recognisable, all encompassing organisation for the promotion of indigenous Irish beer, quality and above all, choice. Beoir will be host to the same content as ICB has been for the past almost three years, including an open community. And Beoir will encompass the idea, and I think the name, of a group of amateur craft brewers under the banner of ICB (literally, since we got that one printed last year! ).

If anything, the presence of a hobby group in a consumers group makes the sense of community and passion for the topic even stronger, and as TBN said above, it's been a natural progression to this stage, as ICB has already been used as a banner for representing beer choice in Ireland. Beoir as a name and a more structured approach should make that easier for the Joe Soaps to understand (in the ways I outlined earlier), and I really believe it won't dilute what has been achieved community-wise thus far. As for potential risks of not being taken seriously, well that's when a campaign of education would be needed, but from my own experience, I think most people are really curious about home brewing, especially when they taste what it's really like!

I'm gonna set up a poll to see if we can figure out the balance of brewers/non-brewers, just for shits and giggles [/size:1el83v20]

Donation submitted. Eagerly awaiting the tide of craft beers starting to be imported..

-I go away for a couple of weeks and you guys start another beer focused organization in Ireland? Geesh! You guys don't slow down for anything, do you?

I think I understand the vision and I'm quite excited.

So when's the "Beoir Guide to Great Irish Pubs" coming out? -We need a "carrot" to convince more pubs to start carrying craft beers. The US tourist would go nuts for this sort of thing as they see Ireland as some sort of beer mecca. (It's one of the first things people first say to me in the US when they learn that I live in Ireland)- "You must be enjoying all the great beer there." or "The Guiness is SO good there, right?"... -Both comments are kryptonite to me, but definitely indicative of a belief that we should take full advantage of.

Can we start making outrageous claims about the superior nature of Irish Craft Beer, now? (I'm pretty sure that the CO2 is superior to non-Irish Craft Beer!..)

I also dug up this OLD post from TBN...

Posted back in 2007 and discussing the possibility of something that sounds strangely like Beoir...

[quote:3rngfsna]If we're going to be more formal, we'll need to get bow-ties and cummerbunds done too. [/quote:3rngfsna]

Does this mean our Beoir memberships come with bowties?

Maybe throw in a choice for kinda brewers-ish like myself? People who've done a handful of kits, but are on a bit of a hiatus at the moment, so are kinda in between the two. As it is, I wouldn't be entirely sure which one to choose..
