Well if they're refusing to sell half pints that's really really poor form.

Sounds to me like it's hired in bar staff rather than what I understood to be the case at the RDS where it was brewers and volunteers who actually gave a toss.

The festival is what it is. For what it's worth, I had a really good time last night (mainly to do with the company I was with). Great choice of music too.

The only real beef (pardon the pun) I would have would be regarding the choice of food. Or lack of. But I don't think that was the fault of the organisers. I know they really wanted to push the boat out with Irish artisan food producers; I had even sent in a list of possible contacts and the details of a couple of members here who PM'ed me regarding the same. My feeling is that DCC had a hand in what they were allowed- Just like the no glass, no children and chuck-out at 11:30pm prompt.

The ironic thing is that Seamus and Bruce targeted the IFSC thinking that they would have more freedom, not less, than they had at the RDS.

I really enjoyed it - good craic. Just reading some of the posts -

The brewers are pouring pints alright - so its not 'hired staff who dont give a toss'.

I am pouring pints myself between 5 and 7 tonight - I will wear my 'Beoir' tee-shirt to do some shameless advertising.

I have to say - I think events like these are ideal for Beoir to showcase who we are.

I know its a bit of a drag - and perhaps we dont quite have the numbers - but in the future - I'd like to see all the bar staff beoir members - with beoir tee-shirts. We could provide the volunteers and then when it comes to getting Beoir stands / tents - we would be quids in - as the organisers need us for the work. All it would take is enough of us volunteering a couple of hours

If they want to pay us that's grand, I'm only volunteering because I was gonna be around Dublin anyway and got a few pints out of it. I'd not fancy staying there all night though unless I'm getting paid for it.

And I dont think anyone would expect you to - all night behind a bar is serious hard work!!!

I was making a point that if a lot of people donated two hours it would make a difference. But I did montion that we probably dont have the numbers.

What I mean is -
Thurs / Fri / Sat / Sun / Mon -
Say beoir are the main volunteers at the bar in the evenings - so its from say 5 - 11 or 3 slots
Judging by the numbers of staff last night you would need
Slot 1 - 5-7 - 8 People
Slot 2 - 7-9 - 6 People
Slot 3 - 9-11 - 4 People

So roughly 18 people per day - close to 100 volunteers !!! <!-- s:shock: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_eek.gif" alt=":shock:" title="Shocked" /><!-- s:shock: -->

So the organsiation would probabaly need numbers close to the 1000 mark to get volunteers like that - Maybe next year <!-- s:wink: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt="" title="Wink" /><!-- s:wink: -->
