I think I'll use this as an excuse to call in to my LHBS and get a look at lager kit specs and instructions. I will get two of something appropriately generic, with room temp fermentation instructions, and report back.

BTW i think nearly all the other coopers kits are just ale yeast.

I have a Young's Harvest Pilsner Lager kit marked best before July 2011. I have had it for a year, but has been stored with my grain, so it hasn't been maltreated or anything.

Would someone like it?

I'm of the opinion that the two kits should be from the same batch. Besides, I wouldn't want to deprive you.

Fair enough.

What about the all grain recipe? I was looking at doing 100% Pilsner Malt and just using Hallertauer Mittelfrüh for a 35 IBU Pilsner wort. This would be fermented cool with Nottingham. I would expect the ABV to come in around the 5% mark.

Any objections to this plan?

Sounds good to me. I will have to check my supply of pilsner malt to see if I can use it for 100% of the grain bill.

Are you lagering or fermenting using ale yeast at a cooler temp?

I might use different hops though, stick with a classic. I have a lot of Saaz <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

Barry in My Beer & Wine did his level best to raise the overall quality of our project, but I'm afraid lowest common denominator prevailed, for which I take full responsibility:

The point of having two all-grain beers was for one to be a real lager, the other a blonde ale. If both are ales and the recipe is different, I don't see what can be tested.
