Some Weatherspoons are better than others. Some do indeed attract a troublesome crowd but others are quite well maintained and well run establishments. I've been to a fair mix of them in Scotland. I've not been to any in NI though.
I'm not sure if I've mentioned it on this thread but the Hook Norton's Double Stout is very nice. It's got a bit of a caramel lick to it.

It's not like it's a franchise or pubco where the management have any say in how it's done. The difference from pub to pub is down solely to the drinkers and drinking culture of where they are. The business model of selling vast volumes at low prices is not going to allow for any kind of door policy, other than "two glassings and you're out".
