Growler fills in Irish pubs? 12 years 9 months ago #37

Mid drinking my metalman now about 30hr after purchase. Has lost maybe a slight amount of carb but is perfect to me.

Great to finally have it at home. Always different to drink a beer at home and not get distracted by pub goings on. Growler is really good looking too. Fits nicely into my fridge shelf.

They are 900ml so prices arent amazing but 6e seems like good enough value for a MM seeing as its not available from offies.

We sanitise them and at the moment are putting together a sanitising kit and growler care instructions. Irish brewers have worked incredibly hard on the quality of their product and the last thing we want is off flavours in poorly cleaned growlers damaging a brand's reputation. We fill from the bottom with sanitised piping and are looking into other fill options.

I'll post an image of the prices once I am in work, but we price each beer according to its cost price and on a take away margin, so the price of Metalman for example would be different to the White Gyspy Amber. I think Metalman is about 6 euro from memory.

Our intention is to bring the 'grocer' element back to LMG. On Saturdays we have Arun bakery bread, 3FE coffee, wall and Keogh tea by the gram and cheeses.

Will post the photo later.[/quote:46dptuqb]

Loving all of it!
Haven't seen a pub getting back to grocer roots; that's a brilliant idea.
And e6 for Metalman is very reasonable.

You said you're looking into other fill options; here[/url:46dptuqb]'s some advice on how to flush with CO2 before adding the beer.
Purging and "capping on foam" (having a bit of froth at the top means less room for oxygen) are the two good practices, aside from sanitation and tubing, that I hear about for growlers, and can change shelf life from hours to days.

Good luck!

Their 3.2 pint growler costs £5 to buy and £10 to fill. They also do a 1.6 pint one for exactly half the prices. They fill them in a machine which flushes the bottle with CO2 before the beer goes in.[/quote:mmvmy28s]

A €15 deposit on the bottle is MENTAL.

It's not a deposit. You are purchasing the bottle and can use as you see fit.

It's expensive compared to most countries but I imagine there are logistical reasons why. It's a downside to living on a small island that manufactures feck all.

But we do import Corny kegs. The smallest is IIRC a 9 litre.

Now thats what I would call a growler on steroids!

Imagine:

9 L corny filled with 5L of beer and 4 L of gas at say 2 bar.

All you need is a picnic tap and you have your own private mini keg!
