I have access to a lovely private venue with great character - perfect for what you guys have in mind. I hire it myself for music nights. Owner is dead sound, very laid back and very open to this sort of thing.

It's in the middle of nowhere in the midlands though.

I would be more than happy to facilitate an event there if anyone is interested, and could tie it in with a bit of music etc.

There's the letter of the law and the spirit of the law. If it's plainly obvious that what we're doing is a swap meet as part of a club then even if we use a commercial venue, we're still operating within the spirit of the law.

That said, I'm no solicitor either.

In our case we divvy up the cost of the venue hire between attendants and bring our own alcohol. Works grand.

Could we not run it as a more formal version of the current meet up? Where is the need for the added expense? Personally I don't care much for a physical prize, the pride in knowing I am the best would be worth more than its weight in gold <!-- s;) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" /><!-- s;) -->

Either we appoint a judging panel or we go by democratic vote I can see this as something which could work.

I don't see why we need to mention money!

This is a Beoir competition and not open to the public.

Lets say we decided on 4 of the B&C Thursday meet ups to be competition night.

All who want bring their beers along for every one to sample!

Sounds familiar right!

Now the difference is we do it a bit more formally, people who can't come early drop in the beers before the event ( as happens ). We shcedule the entries into groups and then taste and every body gets to vote

Over time this may outgrow the B&C ( or they may want us to go back to our old format ) and if so we find a suitable venue

Cheers

I guess that would be fine for the regular B&C crowd or those that can make Dublin on a Thursday night, which counts out the remainder of the country really.

I like the idea of a National homebrew contest and would like to see it at the weekend to allow others to travel
