Which could be the luck of the draw or down to whether someone thinks free booze is even worse than cheap booze.

AFAIK, theres no such thing as 'Free' Booze, at least not when its produced commercially.

As I understand it, you have to pay the excise regardless of whether you sell it or give it away. So if you give it away, technically it is below cost.

It does. And we are relying on them to get it right! <!-- s:shock: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_eek.gif" alt=":shock:" title="Shocked" /><!-- s:shock: -->

It's hard to believe, but there is actually a legislative process to be observed here: possibly a public consultation, certainly at least one Dáil and Seanad debate each, and a committee stage. Plenty of places for citizens to try and exercise a bit of influence.

Anyone care to draw up a list of those TDs who have craft breweries in their constituencies?

We actually are. Public consultations and the best of intentions aside, in the end they can still get it wrong.

Plenty of examples of badly constructed modern laws. E.g. people getting off on drink driving charges due to technicalities, etc.

I'm curious how a minimum pricing law might impact the "beer boards"/taster trays that are finally making it to some craft beer pubs? -Would such a law apply regardless of serving size? (That would be so sad if it killed the taster tray.)
