Don't know why I didn't think of this before.

Would minimum pricing make free pints and even free samples illegal?

On the face of it, I would think it would and that is bad for pubs and consumers alike.

Nah, you could make the distinction between being sold and being given away free.

Just like no VAT and 0% VAT. End result is the same, but there is a distinction.

Are you 100% sure about that? Could free alcohol not be used as a workaround the minimum price legislation?

I think it just depends on exactly how they frame the legislation: "a minimum price for alcohol" or "a minimum price at which alcohol can be sold", as Tube says.
