I'd be a lot more worried about a bottle exploding. Cans may be thin but they're very strong. I've only ever see cans puncture, not explode.

Plus there is some "give" in cans if the Co2 pressure got too high. Bottles are rigid.

i have

i was bringing a 15 can pack of jsmiths to a friend of mine in work from newery in a old series 3 land rover and the box fell in the back spilling cans and causing a few to burst and two to explode creating a massive ale fountan in the back

took me ages to get the smell out.

you have just reminded me of when we used to have a CAMRA branch in Dublin and go on a trip to Belfast. Our driver, Dave had a volvo estate that he would load up with Hilden ale casks and with us in the back of the car smelling like the brewery off we would go,meeting the RUC on the way home late at night.
Keg bombs were common then so trying to explain in our happy state that these were not kegs but casks was interesting, but we did. They figured that since we where heading south they would let the guards check us out, smuggling to the south was common then but I always taught that was too strong a word.

I got over that when I paid $16 for a 4-pack of 12oz cans of Oskar Blues Ten Fiddy.

Beer can chicken is awesome! So tender you can't even carve it, the bird just falls apart when you try to use a knife. Makes great gravy, too.

So, no different from brining then.
