Here is a link to REAL, indigenous Irish apple varietys - they are selling for about €22 a tree bare rooted and they do have cider apples.

www.irishseedsavers.ie/blog/2009 ... criptions/

There are even grants available for planting native Irish orchards but I can't now find the link

Cheers

Lads, just to make my point a bit clearer. I was asking about cider made from English apples, *grown* in England.

I'd be of the view that English varieties grown in Ireland are Irish apples.

Yeah, I guess I sort of agree, but how come it works for apples but doesn't for dogs ? an English bulldog will always be an English Bulldog no matter where it is grown

Also, besides Bulmers using alot of Bramley apples from the north, apples are generally not imported into Ireland for cider production except during bad harvest years, so if we have a bad harvest this year we will be drinking English cider based on your point.

And to throw yet another spanner in,its well known that the macros in UK use apple juice concentrate imported from France, Germany and China to augment their production and theres no reason to believe that doesn't happen here particularly since Bulmers(C&C)have larger production facilities in UK than Ireland after buying out Gaymers.

Gonna probably get this wrong, but "English Bulldog" is a proper noun, whereas English in "English apples" is an adjective denoting nationality.
