I am a postdoctoral research at the coal face of a major university and a well aware of what their ability's are, but all to aware how funding is going to go in this country in the next few years

I did not doubt its was a good idea and potential profitable but that type of fund would probably require funding agency like SFI or enterprise Ireland. These agency's are now look for a commercial party as a requirement for funding. Also funding it getting very competitive (probably the most in the history of the state) where disciplines that would never compete for money are now going up against each other.

Who knows something might be puller off but some of the major calls for funding like Programme for Research in Third-Level Institutions that has the funds to do this but is closing some time next month and an expression of interested would already need to be submitted, watch and wait <!-- s:? --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_confused.gif" alt=":?" title="Confused" /><!-- s:? -->

Trying to get Heineken to be the commercial partner is a complete waste of energy. I'm guessing the campaign knows that too now:
[quote:1lro87zx]Group chairman Damien Cassidy said he called a halt to the meeting after an hour in disgust ... "we got sick of listening to their talk of economics which took no account of the wishes of the people of Cork."[/quote:1lro87zx]You have to wonder what he expected.

Its just lazy too. If its going to be viable business they need to develop a business plan that investors want to get in on an not try to get Heineken who want out to pay for it

Looks like the old Beamish site will live on, one way or another. Article in the Examiner today states that planning permission is being sought for a Brewing Experience Visitor Centre, which will allow for a 6,000 seat event centre, student accommodation, a viewing tower, cinemas, shops, restaurants and bars, plus some offices.

Good news I think.
Cheers,
Billy.
